My new shoes have just arrived from UK-based Vegetarian Shoes! They make high quality footwear using no animal products and this is the 3rd time I’ve bought from them. I’ve got no affiliation with the company, just one satisfied customer.
Part of my lifestyle includes an effort to avoid actions that directly require killing other creatures. This has mainly led to me being a vegetarian and choosing not to use products made from new leather and other animal remains.
It was initially a difficult challenge to find good footwear with the lasting power and style of leather without actually buying leather itself. I found Vegetarian Shoes in 2006 and there weren’t many other options available. Vegetarian Shoes makes a large variety of men’s and women’s footwear including formal, casual, work/safety, outdoors and others. They use some pretty sweet material derived from nautical upholstery that’s waterproof and moves and breathes like leather.
I decided to take the plunge and ordered their X Trainer in size 41, the nearest match I could make to what I wear in Canada. It was a bit scary since they weren’t cheap and shipping would’ve been awful if I had to send them back. But they fit perfect! I wore that pair into the ground and my most recent ones are pretty much totalled. That’s what I get for wearing the same shoes for everything…
My most recent order I took advantage of a sale they had on and got 3 pairs, also cutting down on the shipping costs. I’m hoping not to have to buy another pair for awhile now!
In the meantime more and more options are sprouting up every day for people who don’t want to wear animals on their feet. I’ve been keeping my eye on a US retailer called Moo Shoes that distributes lots of animal-free brands, including my favourite Vegetarian Shoes!
